Regulator Diagnostic

Sometimes, when you install a mod on the original Game Boy, you might find it’s not working as intended. In many cases, the original regulator has failed, or is on its way out. This can result in the original screen working fine, but new IPS kits not booting at all.

How To Measure

Take a multimeter, and set it to DC voltage mode. Probe the locations as shown in the visual below and note the reading. If the measurement is below ~4.8v, this may indicate that it’s time to replace your regulator and perhaps recap the console.
